Walk of America 2018

In 2018, Walking With The Wounded will undertake its 2nd largest expedition yet, The Walk of America. The walk will see a team of 3 x UK and 3 x US wounded, injured and sick service personnel walking over 1200 miles across the United States of America, highlighting the valuable work which the charity does to support our wounded, in the UK and across the pond with our partnering organisations in the US.

WWTW is delighted that Prince Harry will once again be the expedition Patron. The US expedition will give Walking With The Wounded the chance to highlight the value of VTAP – the Veterans Transatlantic Partnership, which aims to support vulnerable veterans on both sides of the Atlantic, demonstrating the special relationship between the UK and US off the battlefield as well as on it and upholding the vision of Walk of America Patron, Prince Harry.

The walk will create a platform to tell the stories of our wounded and their individual journeys from injury to the present day and more specifically will provide a platform to engage in a wider conversation around mental health. Crucially the expedition also gives the ability to fundraise against a poignant background of the centenary commemorations of the of WW1, a conflict which saw British and American soldiers fighting so valiantly side by side.

WWTW expeditions are not funded by the charity income it generates, but by corporate sponsorship partners, organisations seeking a platform to support the veteran community.
This is the 5th major expedition run by WWTW, following The North Pole in 2011. Everest in 2012, The South Pole Allied challenge in 2013 and The Walk of Britain in 2015. The Endeavour Fund has supported all WWTW expeditions.

The team will also have a number of support roles open to WIS to help with the logistical support to the walking team while they are in America. If you’d like to know more and register your interest then please get in touch with Victoria Nicholson on the email address below.
